The main direction of D. A. Vasiliev's work is the development of recommendations for the commercial use of marine bioresources based on the creation and application of new model approaches to assessing the parameters and state of the reserve-fishery systems. The models created by the author were used to assess the state of stocks and develop forecasts of catch of objects of domestic and international fishing, including: East Okhotsk, North Okhotsk, West Beringovomorsky, East Kamchatka and Navarinsky pollock stocks, sturgeon of the Caspian Sea, sevryuga of the Amur River; stocks of whiting, Norwegian spring-spawning herring and mackerel of the NEA, Barents Sea cod, cod of sub-districts 25-32 of the Baltic Sea, Ross Sea fangfish, horse mackerel of the South Sea, etc. In general, the methods developed by the author for assessing the state of commercial fish stocks have significantly expanded the scientific and methodological base for obtaining reasonable numerical estimates of the state of commercial fish stocks and improving their accuracy in the conditions of inconsistency of the available information.
The group of TISVPA models developed by D. A. Vasiliev has been introduced into the practice of ICES Working Groups and other organizations and is used to assess the stocks of whiting, herring and mackerel and other stocks.
