Ruban Georgy Igorevich carried out fundamental studies of the species structure, geographical variability, growth, nutrition, breeding ecology, gametogenesis of the Siberian sturgeon in the modern range, as well as fundamental studies of migration, behavior, distribution and fishing of sturgeons (Russian sturgeon, beluga, sevryuga) and the influence of anthropogenic factors on the reproduction and formation of the number of these species in the Volga-Caspian basin.
