After graduating from the Kaliningrad Technical Institute of Fishing Industry and Economy in 1983, he worked in the Department of Yugrybpromrazvedka, Kerch, from where in 1985 he was re-assigned to Azcherniro( YugNIRO), now a branch of VNIRO. During 1989-2005, he held the position of head of the laboratory (department) of fish resources of the Indian (later World) Ocean. He studied the biology of tropical tunas. He contributed to the development of the Soviet industrial tuna fishing in the Indian Ocean. He conducted modeling of trophic chains in the pelagic ecosystem of the Indian Ocean. In 2005, He was invited to work at the Institute of Research for Development (Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, IRD) France, where he participated in research related to changes in the pelagic ecosystem of the Indian Ocean under the influence of industrial pelagic fishing. As a result of the work, structural changes in the abundance and diversity of predators of various trophic levels were traced and the species most susceptible to anthropogenic and climatic influences were identified.
