Podkorytova Antonina Vladimirovna
The Editorial Council Member
Russian Federal Research Institute Of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO)
In the period from 1969 to 2001, she worked at the Pacific Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography in Vladivostok. Currently, she is working as a chief researcher of innovative technologies of the Russian Federal Research Institute Of Fisheries and Oceanography (VNIRO) . In the period 2001-2004, Professor A.V. Podkorytova was the chairman of the Dissertation Council K 307.004.01 at the FSUE "VNIRO". 2005-2007-Deputy Chairman of the Dissertation Council D 307.004.03 at FSUE "VNIRO". From 2001 to 2015, she was a member of the Dissertation Council at the TINRO-Center. From 2007 to 2018, she was a member of the Dissertation Council D 307.004.03 for the defense of doctoral dissertations at the VNIRO. During the period of her scientific activity, A.V. Podkorytova took a direct part in improving the biotechnology of cultivation in two - and one-year cycles of Japanese kelp on pilot industrial plantations located in the coastal zone of the Primorsky Territory, Peter the Great Bay, the Sea of Japan. The results of studies of kelp in the process of its development from sporophyte to mature two-year-old plant, the biosynthesis of alginic acids, low-molecular carbohydrate-mannitol, nitrogenous compounds, including the synthesis of free amino acids, the accumulation of mineral elements, including vital for the human body, such as calcium, potassium, iron, molybdenum, zinc, iodine, etc., as well as the developed technology of high-molecular alginates from kelp became the basis of the candidate's thesis.
Podkorytova A.V. created a scientific school of biochemical and technological research of marine brown, red algae and sea grasses. Under her leadership and direct participation, new technologies for preserving kelp, complex technologies for the production of hydrocolloids of a wide spectrum of action, such as alginic acid and its salts – alginates from brown algae, as well as food and microbiological agar, agarose, kappa, were developed- and iota-carrageenans from red algae, biologically active additives (dietary supplements) of various spectrum of action, including zosterin-zosterate from sea grasses, the results of which were included in the doctoral dissertation and the monograph "Marine algae-macrolites and herbs", which was published in 2005. In 2006, the monograph "Commercial algae and herbs of the seas of the Far East: biology, distribution, processing technology" was published in collaboration with M. V. Sukhoveeva.
With the participation and scientific guidance of A.V. Podkorytova, about 40 industrial technologies have been developed in the form of technological instructions and technical specifications for products . Many of them are implemented in production. The technology of preserving food kelp with sodium chloride (table salt) was introduced at the enterprises of Primorrybprom in the period 1992-1995. Currently, the technologies of dietary supplements, functional and specialized food products based on biologically active substances of algae are very popular. The most popular is algae biogel from kelp, the technology of which was developed and patented in the period 1992-95. The enterprise in the Dmitrov district, under a license agreement with VNIRO, produces specialized food products of 8 names for therapeutic dietary preventive nutrition for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, diabetes, thyroid gland, mineral metabolism disorders, anemia, for the elimination of iodine deficiency and the consequences of radiation exposure, for use in complex therapy in cardiological patients with heart rhythm disorders.
Podkorytova A.V. is the author of more than 270 scientific papers, including 9 monographs, 25 patents and 40 industrial technologies.
