Field of interests-ichthyology, ecology, histology. Specializes in the study of the consequences of anthropogenic impact on natural ecosystems and the peculiarities of the  freshwater ecosystems functioning in extreme natural and man-made conditions of the North. Development of the concept of aquatic ecosystems diagnostics based on a system of biological markers and contributing to the conservation and multiplication of aquatic biological resources; development of histopathological and biochemical criteria for assessing water quality in order to determine critical loads on aquatic ecosystems; identification of patterns of development of structural and functional changes in the fish body in technogenically transformed aquatic ecosystems; obtaining new data on the mechanisms of  fish adaptation to extreme natural conditions and anthropogenic influences.
