From 1969 to 1989 He participated in the organization and conduct of long-term scientific and fishing expeditions to the South Atlantic and Antarctica, the Indian Ocean, the south-eastern part of the Pacific Ocean on the NPS "Professor Mesyatsev". Articles with the first data on the biology of fish that were of leading importance in the domestic fishery (Peruvian horse mackerel and mackerel, whiting, etc.) were published. He actively studied commercial fish of the continental slope, underwater ridges and individual elevations of the World Ocean. Prepared for publication a monograph of VNIRO (2006): "Commercial fish of Russia. In 2 volumes". He made a significant contribution to the study of the World Ocean ichthyofauna– he described 68 new fish species for science.
