Participated in 28 sea expeditions on scientific and commercial vessels, where he conducted research on plankton, benthos, and commercial invertebrates. A number of articles have been written based on the results of voyages in the World Ocean; a doctoral dissertation has been defended on the basis of 10 expeditions to the Caspian Sea, a monograph has been written; according to the data collected during fishing voyages in the Sea of Okhotsk articles and a monograph have been written. For 16 years Karpinsky Mikhail Georgievich was a member of the VNIRO dissertation council.
