Author Guidelines

For authors

Goals and objectives of the journal "Trudy VNIRO": The scientific peer-reviewed serial publishes articles in all areas of fishery studies – reviews, original research and short reports, as well as reports on expeditions, conferences, anniversaries, losses and other information. The journal accepts materials from graduate students, applicants, doctoral students, specialists and experts in the field. Articles are accepted in Russian or English.

All articles submitted to the editorial office undergo double-blind peer review. The decision to accept or reject articles is made by the editor-in-chief based on the recommendation of the editorial board. The author is noted about the article having been rejected.

Articles submitted to several publications or written in violation with publication ethics are not accepted for consideration. If such facts are revealed, the author's articles will not be accepted for consideration in the future.

The publication of articles in the journal is free of charge.

I. Recommendations to the author before submitting an article

Submission of an article to the journal "Trudy VNIRO" implies that:

  • the article has not been previously published in another journal;
  • the article is not pending in another journal;
  • the article was prepared without violating publication ethics and in compliance with the rules for authors;
  • all co-authors agree with the publication of the article’s current version.

Before submitting an article for consideration, make sure that the file(s) contain(s) all the necessary information in Russian and English, the information sources contained in the figures and tables are indicated, and all quotes are written out correctly.

On the title page of the article the author writes (in Russian and English):

I. Author’s name

Authors are people who have been identified by the research team as key contributors to the work presented and who have agreed to take responsibility for their work.

The journal "Trudy VNIRO" accepts the following criteria for authorship:

  • Substantial contributions to study plan and design, data collection, data analysis and interpretation.
  • Drafting of an article or its critical revision in terms of meaningful intellectual content.
  • Final approval of the article’s version for publication.

The list of authors should not include people who are not authors of the article. The names of people who are not authors but provided other support are to be listed in the Acknowledgments section.

Last name should be written before the initials of the first and middle (patronymic) name.

Last name in English must be written the same way it was done in previously published articles. If the author has no publications, the BSI standard ought to be used to transliterate the name of the author.

II. Author’s affiliation

Affiliation includes the following data: full official name of the organization, full postal address (including postal code, city and country). Authors are required to mention all jobs related to the conduct of the study.

If authors from different institutions took part in drafting the article, it is necessary to list the affiliation of each author to a specific institution using a superscript.

The official English name of the institution is required for the block of information in English.

III. Contact information of the author (s), date of article’s receipt in the editorial office and approval for publication

This section contains e-mail addresses and full mailing address of the responsible author(s), as well as the date of article’s receipt in the editorial office and the date the article was approved for publication.

IV. Title

The title of the article in Russian should correspond to the content of the article.

The title in English ought to be correct in terms of the English language, while the meaning should fully correspond to the Russian title.

V. Abstract

Recommended volume of original scientific articles’ abstract is 1000-2000 characters (with spaces). The abstract of articles must necessarily contain information about the Purpose, Materials and Research Methods, Results, their Practical and / or Scientific significance.

Example: The purpose of the work is to localize the impact of destabilizing factors in the form of separate routing areas. It is proposed to apply methods of increasing stability of a communication network with high computational complexity only in certain areas of routing that have been exposed to destabilizing factors, which will allow limit their computational complexity by the boundaries of these areas.

Methodology: localizing the effects of destabilizing factors in the form of separate routing areas is based on methods for determining strongly connected areas in the graph theory and Lance-Williams hierarchical clustering algorithm, taking into account the specifics of the communication networks functioning. As a criterion for the destabilizing factors impact on the communication network, it is suggested using the level of change in the metrics of individual communication channels. The criterion for stopping the clustering process is the achievement in the cluster of a given level of stability in terms of the probability of connectivity of the information direction of communication.

Originality: the originality element of the presented solution is using Lance-Williams hierarchical clustering algorithm in decomposing of the communication network and considering the impact of destructive factors by changing the metric of the network graph edges. A new criterion for clustering which takes into account impact of destructive factors on the network elements should be considered as the element of originality as well.

Result: presented solution to localize the impact of destabilizing factors in the form of separate routing areas makes it possible to reduce the computational requirements for the RAM in proportion to the number of clusters obtained, as well as to provide network stability at a level not lower than DCI. Modeling for a network of 30 nodes with a destructive effect on 20% of communication channels showed the possibility of dividing the network into 5 clusters, reducing the complexity of using Dijkstra's algorithm by 4.5 times in terms of RAM for storing routing tables relative to the network without clustering, with equal DCI set at the 0.95 level.

Practical relevance: the presented solution is proposed to be implemented in the software form for routers based on the OpenFlow protocol for software-defined SDN networks. The implementation based on OpenFlow will allow for adaptive dynamic reconfiguration of areas and routing protocols in a communication network upon discovering destabilizing factors impact on its elements.

Abstract ought not to include new terms, abbreviations (except for well-known ones) and references to literature.

VI. Keywords

Five-seven words on the topic of the article. Keywords should complement abstract and title of the article and not repeat the words from the title.

VII. Article structure

The journal uses the IMRAD (Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion) format for original scientific articles. Free rubrication is permitted for review and analytical articles, with mandatory Introduction and Conclusion. For Information reports, no rubrication is required.

VIII. Acknowledgments

Acknowledgements are put at the end of the article: after the section "Conclusion" and before the list of references. In this section, people who took part in the work on the article, but are not its authors, are acknowledged. Participation implies: recommendations for improving the research, providing space for research, departmental control, obtaining financial support, single types of analysis, providing reagents / patients / animals / other resources for research. In addition, in case the article have been amended significantly after the review, it is advisable to express gratitude to unknown (anonymous) reviewers.

IX. Funding

This section lists all sources of research funding (grants, state assignments, agreements, etc.) with full name of the funding source (organization, city, country) and number of the grant, agreement, state assignment, etc.

X. Conflict of interest statement

A conflict of interest occurs when people have conflicting or competing interests that can influence editorial decisions. Conflicts of interest can be potential or perceived, as well as existing. Objectivity can be influenced by personal, political, financial, scientific or religious factors.

The author is obliged to notify the editor of an existing or potential conflict of interest by including information about the conflict of interest in the appropriate section of the article.

If there is no conflict of interest, the author should also disclose this. Example: "The author declares no conflict of interest."

XI. Contribution to work

Authors should specify which of the co-authors is responsible for each part of the work.

In a reference list, sources are arranged in alphabetical order.

Describing a source, the following is written: The author (authors, all without exception) of the article, the year of publication, the title of the work and bibliographic data with page numbers indicated. If one publication from an edition is listed, the bibliographic data are separated by a double slash; editors of a collection are marked off by a single slash. For journals, its name, volume and number of a collection are given - name, city and publisher.

Describing a source, one should indicate its DOI, if it is possible to find it (in about 95% of cases for non-Russian sources).

Links to the articles accepted for publication but yet to be published, should add "in print"; authors must obtain written permission to refer to such documents and confirm that they are accepted for publication. Information from unpublished sources should be listed as "unpublished data / documents"; authors must also obtain written permission to use such sources.

Links should be verified, output should be checked on the official website of journals and / or publishers.

References to the non-English-language sources are to be translated into English. At the end of the link language of the source (except for English) is placed: (In Russ.).

II. How to submit an article for review

A manuscript of an article is sent to the editorial office by e-mail. The file should be in Microsoft Word format (*.doc, *.docx). Pictures are submitted as separate graphic good quality (at least 300 dpi) files in JPG and TIFMETHOD formats.

III. Interaction between the journal and an author

Journal’s editorial office maintains correspondence with the responsible author, however, mails may be sent to all the authors whose e-addresses are listed if the team of authors wishes so.

All articles submitted to the journal "Trudy VNIRO" are preliminary checked by the editorial board for compliance with formal requirements. At this stage, the article can be returned to the author(s) with a request to correct errors or add missing data. Also at this stage, the article may be rejected due to the inconsistency with the subject of the journal, lack of originality and low scientific value.

After a preliminary check, the scientific editor submits an article to the reviewers setting the deadline for the review. A notification is further sent to the author.

In controversial cases, the editor can involve extra specialists in the review process, as well as the editor-in-chief.

With a positive opinion of the reviewers, the article is handed over to the editor for publication.

When a decision is made to revise the article, an author gets comments and observations from the reviewers. Author is given 2 months (60 days) for major revision and 1 month (30 days) for minor revision. If during this period author has not informed the editors about amendments he/she is about to make in the article, it is removed from the publication queue.

When a decision is made to not accept an article, the corresponding editorial decision is sent to the author.

The final layout is sent to the responsible author of the article approved for publication, and the author should look over it. A response is expected from the author(s) within 3 days. If there is no response, the layout of the article is considered approved.

IV. Procedure for revising decisions of the editor / reviewer

If the author does not agree with the conclusion of the reviewer and / or editor or individual comments, he can challenge the decision. To do this, the author needs to:

  • amend the manuscript of the article according to the substantiated comments of reviewers and editors;
  • express his/her position on the matter of consideration clearly.

Our editors support resubmission of manuscripts that potentially could have been accepted but were rejected due to the need for significant amendments or extra data, and are ready to detail what needs to be corrected in the manuscript in order for it to be approved for publication.

V. Editors’ actions in case of plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data detected

If research misconduct has been found out including plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data, the editors follow COPE Guidelines.

By "research misconduct" the journal "Trudy VNIRO" means any actions by a scientist that include improper handling of study objects or deliberate manipulation of scientific information in which it ceases to reflect the observed research, as well as conduct of a scientist that does not meet accepted ethical and scientific standards.

"Trudy VNIRO" does not classify as "research misconduct" honest mistakes or divergences in the plan, carryout, interpretation/evaluation of research methods or results, the same applies to any unethical conduct not related to the scientific process.

VI. Error correction and review

If errors found in an article affect its comprehension but do not mutilate research results, PDF file is to be replaced with the correct one indicating an error in it and on the article page on the journal's website.

If errors found in an article mutilate research results or if plagiarism and research misconduct such as falsification and / or fabrication of data discovered, the article may be withdrawn. It may be initiated by the editorial board, author, organization or individual.

The revoked article is marked with the sign "The article is withdrawn", the cause for the withdrawal is posted on the article page. The information about article withdrawal is sent to the databases where the journal is indexed.
